The Survey of the Ecological-Enlightenment Activity of the Barguzin Reservation

The state natural biospheric preserve “Barguzinsky” is the first officially organized state preserve in Russia. In 2001 it celebrates its 85th anniversary.

Talking about the nature-protection enlightenment at the Barguzin Reservation, we should start with the words of gratitude to the people, who started it yet in 1950-60 s.

From 1953 the Nature Museum functions at the preserve, it was initiated by O.K. Gusev and Y.B. Bayevsky. The work on ecological enlightebment were done by the science workers of the preserve in addition to their major occupation. The Protection Department was also involved. On the preserve’s territory numerous professional photographing was done. A great number of Russia’s and foreign filming groups worked in the preserve, teams of J. Darrel and N. Drozdov among them.The films shot were broadcasted on Central TV Channels and abroad.

In 1984 a booklet “The Barguzin Preserve” was released and a badge designed. In 1993 photoalbum “The Baikal. The Barguzin Preserve” was released. The cahanged economical situation in the country made it hard to continue the complicated work on research an protection of the nature complexes of the preserve. In 1999 the preserve’s administration was moved from Davshe settlement to Nizhneangarsk.

 

The aims and tasks of the ecological enlightenment at the preserve:

  1. Ideological influence on the processes of condition forming for preserving the biological variety and stable development of resourse-saving at the Baikal basin.
  2. Informing the population of the nature-protection and social-ecological importance of the preserve.
  3. Design and instillation the methodological means for educating the school children in sense of Man-Nature interrelations.
  4. Participation in forming and development of people’s ecological culture.

 

To achieve these aims the department works in the following dirctions:

  • working with children,
  • involving the mass-media to influence the adults,
  • initiating the joint activities with the culture and education institutions,
  • cooperating with the public ecological organizations,
  • spreading the information,
  • organizing work on the visit-center basis,
  • designing the ways of cooperation with local administrations,
  • organizing the tourism ecology.
