
Protection – The General Information
The preserve carries out the following tasks:
- Protecting the nature territories in order to preserve the biological variety and keep
the protected natural complexes and objects in the natural state;
- Organizing and leading the scientific researches, including the Nature’s Chronicle:
- Leading the ecological monitoring:
- Ecological enlightenment;
- Participating in the state ecological expertise of projects and schemes of placing the
economic and other objects;
- Assistance to preparing the scientific workers and specialists in the sphere of
environment protection.

The preserve’s borders:
- in the north from the Shegnanda river basin;
- in the south from the Gromotukha river basin;
- in the east along the crest of the Barguzin mountain range;
- in the west along the bank of Baikal from the Shegnanda river basin to cape Zayezovochny
and further to the south to the Gromotukha river basin along the Baikal aquatory in a 3 km
distance from the shore.
In winter movement through the preserve aquatory of the Baikal Lake is
permitted only along the marked ice road of common use. In summer the vessel movement
through the preserve aquatory without the preserve’s aministration is forbidden (except
the vessel passage in Davshe bay).
